RAYONG — Bloodshed and violence broke out tonight after a Thai sex worker and a Cambodian sex worker engaged in a firefight on the sixth floor of the Crystal Jade Hotel on Sukhumvit Road, in the Noen Phra neighborhood of the city.
British expat Nigel Mullen, 57, originally from Wythenshawe, had secretly arranged what he intended to be a threesome with Nanthiya Srisopha, 35, and Reaksmey Phorn, 28—neither of whom was aware of Nigel’s private plan to include another woman in his bedroom activities. He first invited Reaksmey to his hotel room and asked her to wait in the adjoining suite. Pretending to nip down to 7‑Eleven to “grab a few things,” he instead walked to Y33 Bar and picked up Nanthiya.
“As soon as I saw this other woman come into the room, I was pretty shocked—I don’t do girl-on-girl. Unless it’s for serious money, and this guy clearly wasn’t that.” Reaksmey said in her statement at the Map Ta Phut Police Station.
“When I heard that ee tua open her ugly mouth, I knew she was Khmer, sent here to invade our land and take our phanakngan borikan jobs,” said Nanthiya from her hospital bed, where she was recovering from multiple gunshot wounds to her lower extremities and torso.
According to the police report, the incident began when Reaksmey “realized it was a setup” and pulled out her Steyr AUG A3 SF—fitted with an optional Schmidt & Bender 1.5–6×42 Scope—before opening fire on “that srei chih phlov,” she recounted from inside her jail cell, where she is facing deportation procedures.
Nanthiya managed to overturn a couch and returned fire with her FN P90 TR, with 50-round top-mounted magazine, and armor-piercing bullets that she kept hidden in her purse. When asked why she was carrying a weapon designed for NATO special forces and vehicle crews, she replied, “This wasn’t my first surprise three-way that went wrong, and I’ll just leave it at that.”
The firefight then spilled into the hallway as the women shouted nationalist slogans and recounted the history of the border dispute, with each citing incidents they said deserved to be avenged.
Nanthiya, pinned down behind an overturned housekeeping cart, invoked the 2003 Phnom Penh riots, when Cambodian protesters torched the Thai embassy and dozens of Thai-owned businesses after false reports that a Thai actress claimed Angkor Wat belonged to Thailand.
“You burned our embassy because you believed an actress made a joke?” she shouted, emptying a magazine toward the hallway ice machine, and then reloaded with a fresh clip. “We’re still paying for that Chanel shop, you uncivilized cow.”
“You should get over your shops being burned. It was just a small fire, and they had insurance anyhow,” Reaksmey yelled back, firing from behind a turn in the hallway. She then cited the 2008 standoff at the Preah Vihear Temple, when Thai troops occupied land surrounding the temple despite a UNESCO ruling it belonged to Cambodia.
“You arrogant Thais marched in with soldiers and picnic blankets like it was yours,” she hissed. “We warned you then. Tonight it’s payback for desecrating our temples.” Reaksmey then tossed a frag grenade down the hallway and dove out a window into the night. She was later apprehended by Thai police responding to a “noise complaint at the hotel”.
Several hotel guests were killed by stray bullets, and numerous others were wounded. Both women remain in custody.
According to anonymous sources, Nigel was seen later that night talking to two waitresses at O’Sea Beach Bar and gesturing with both hands.
