BANGKOK – The Bar Girls’ Union is upset at a new documentary that portrays them as whores.
The film, “Bangkok Uncovered,” follows the lives of Pim and Poob as they work in Nana providing entertainment services to men.
“The voice-overs in this so-called film refer to bar girls as ‘prostitutes,’ which demeans any girl that puts on a short skirt and heads to a bar,” the union said. “A bar girl is not the same thing as a prostitute or flight attendant. We have fun with men, and if they want to pay us 2,000 baht at the end of the night for a long cab ride home, that doesn’t make us whores.”
