BANGKOK — Citing “Heavenly movements beyond my control,” former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra claimed yesterday that all morally or legally questionable actions committed under his administration were the direct result of cosmic alignments between the stars and planets.
“Just before I was elected (in 2001) Mars was in retrograde with Saturn rising,” he explained. “That caused ฿49 billion in assets to be concealed. I had nothing to do with it.” He went on to explain that the extrajudicial killing of 2500 people during a the 2003 crackdown on methamphetamines was “mostly due to the closeness of Saturn” and that his decision to sell Shin corp to Temasak in 2005 was “entirely the Moon’s idea.”
If Thaksin’s claims are verified by the Thai scientific community, they are expected to be presented to the Assets Scrutiny Committee as evidence of his innocence.
