BANGKOK – UDD leader Jatuporn Prompan announced open auditions for young men aged 20-28, for paid acting work as “barricade standers” at the red-shirt’s main Rajprasong protest site.
“We’re looking for handsome men of all nationalities but preferably European, who have wind-swept hair and muscular chests that look good beneath slightly ripped shirts ,” Jatuporn said. “And strong baritone singing voices are a must.”
The exact strategy behind the call for actors is unknown, but it has been speculated that the UDD is attempting some kind of new PR tactic in response to government accusations that they are trying to topple Thailand’s revered monarchy.
In addition to two dozen handsome singing men, the red-shirts are also casting roles for one young doe-eyed woman “prepared to sacrifice herself for love” and one young boy, aged 9-12, who must be “scrappy and adorable.” Both roles also require singing.
Auditions will be held at the intersection of Rama 1 and Phahonyothin Road on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10am. Interested applicants should bring their own white clothing. Red flags will be provided.
Prime Minister Abhisit responded to the news by affirming the government’s determination to bring all lawbreakers to justice.
“They know their way in the dark, but mine is the way of the Lord,” he said. “And those who follow the path of the righteous shall have their reward.”
“And if they fall as Lucifer fell,” Abhisit added, “The flame! The sword!”
