BANGKOK – In addition to over 40 buildings in Bangkok burned over the last 48 hours, arsonists also managed to set fire to former massage parlor tycoon and iconoclastic politician Chuwit Kamolvisit.

The arson attack too place at 11:23pm last night in Chuwit Park on Sukhumvit, where the Chart Thai party member was taking a late evening stroll. According to witnesses, masked men ran up behind Chuwit and dumped petrol over his head before setting him alight with matches.

Passers-by managed to assist Chuwit by pushing him into the Greek stone fountain at the far end of the park. The smoldering Chuwit was then taken to nearby Bumrungrad Hospital, where despite third-degree burns over 24% of his body and the complete loss of his hair, he managed to schedule an immediate press conference.

“I am here to speak out on the important issue of being set on fire,” he said to reporters. “For too long the Thai police and corrupt justice system has turned a blind eye to pedestrian-burning, a problem that affects so many of us and our loved ones.”

Chuwit vowed to take a stand and run for re-election on a no-setting-people-on-fire platform. He also indicated he was ready to name names in the “vast conspiracy of Bangkok’s people-burning mafia.”

Still smoldering, Chuwit then posed for a photo that he claimed would appear on his next billboard.
