BANG NA – The recent opening of the largest mall in Thailand drew over 200,000 visitors on its first day as people lined up to see larger versions of the exact same stores they shopped at previously.
“Finally, Thais have the chance to see something truly special,” said Christian Olofsson, president and general manager of the mall’s operating company, “the somewhat bigger examples of their favorite retail outlets.”
Showcasing numerous brands and outlets that have been in Thailand for years, but on a slightly larger scale, MegaBangna is expected to attract over 100,000 visitors a day, making it the most visited retail center in the region.
“There is simply no replacement for being able to buy the things you can buy elsewhere, but in a space that is more spacious,” Olofsson added. “Truly MegaBangna is one of a kind.”
MegaBangna is anchored by a 9000-square meter Big C, which is 8% larger than the next largest one, as well as a HomePro which is 2% bigger than its other 46 outlets. Additionally, the mall will feature a Robinson which is a tiny bit wider than its other 26 stores, and a Major Cineplex that has 15% more total seating than its second-largest cinema complex at Siam Paragon.
“Movie lovers won’t want to miss the chance to see Hollywood blockbusters in such a special environment,” said Major Cineplex president Vicha Poolvaraluck.
“The Mega HomePro will have the largest selection of PVC pipes anywhere in Thailand,” added Nath Jaritchana, executive vice president for marketing at Home Products Center.
Both expressed confidence that Bangkok shoppers wouldn’t mind driving the extra 20km to Bangna to see something as truly unique and special as what will be offered at the mall.
“Sure, the actual merchandise and prices may be the same as what you buy in the city,” said Olofsson. “But the satisfaction of knowing that you bought it at the largest store possible – can you really put a price on such an experience?”
