BANGKOK – Matthew Huntington, a 34-year-old American expat, continues to insist that he met his Thai girlfriend Bee through the social networking site Facebook, despite increasingly overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
According to friends, Huntington, a freelance editor and semi-professional photographer, generally evades the question of where he and Bee first met, but when pressed, will mention Facebook as “where we found each other.”
Based on Huntington’s Facebook profile, he has been a member for only four months, whereas his relationship with Bee began in January 2009. None of his listed Facebook friends includes Bee.
When presented with this information, Huntington explained that he used to have a different account under a different name, and now that Bee had moved into his apartment with him, she no longer needed her own Facebook account and had thus “deactivated it.”
According to her friends, Bee, a 21-year-old from Khon Khaen who is currently unemployed, has never owned or operated a computer.
