A formal petition to the Transportation Ministry asking if it was at all possible to celebrate a Thai Holiday without “Seven Deadly Days” of road accidents was denied recently, according to a NotTheNation exclusive.
“Whether it is New Year’s, Songkran, or an extended holiday weekend, the government loves to post accident numbers of deaths and injuries like it’s some kind of scoreboard,” said petitioner Natcha Wongsuwan.
Ms. Natcha said she thought it was reasonable to ask Transportation Minister, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, to consider celebrating just the holiday and not all the gore of people being smeared across the pavement.
At press time, after rear-ending another driver and flying through her own windshield, Ms. Natcha expressed disappointment that her death would occur outside a well-known holiday and therefore would not appear in any official holiday road death count.
