After departing Bangkok, Charlotte May Lee, 21, a former British stewardess, was arrested in Colombo on suspicion of trafficking 46 kgs of synthetic marijuana—although she claims someone else stuffed her luggage with the drugs while she was out partying the night before she left—and is now being held in Negombo Prison under conditions she has labeled as “awful”, noting, “There are no beds, no blankets. And where you sleep is like a long corridor with lots of other women,” adding that she feels her human rights are being ignored, as she been forced to use a jumper for her pillow, while also upset that the TV and ceiling fan do not work properly, and she only has one outfit to wear.

“Yeah, wow. Those conditions really do sound terrible. I assume that if the charges are dropped and she is released, she’ll dedicate her life toward improving the state of the prison for all the other women inmates, right?”

“Sorry, I just don’t buy her excuse that she didn’t notice an additional 46 kilogrammes of weight in her luggage. Sure, anybody could miss an extra thirty kilos—practically slips right in between your socks and underwear—but forty-six? Give me a break.”

“Damn. You mean we’re not going to get anymore photos of her on Instagram doing that duck-lip thing?”
