BANGKOK – In honor of Chulalongkorn Day, the Thai government has honored the late great monarch as “The Father of Fathering.” King Chualalongkorn or Rama V, who reigned from 1868 to 1910, had 77 children.
“No one could fertilize an egg like His Majesty King Chulalongkorn,” said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva in a special ceremony held today. “From only 92 concubines, His Majesty fathered 33 sons and 44 daughters. One could say, not just figuratively, that His Majesty Chulalongkorn is the father of all Thais.”

Abhisit then unveiled a bronze statue of HM Chulalongkorn surrounded by 77 small figurines representing his children. The new monument, located adjacent to Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall, is spread out over 12 rai.
