Thai Journalist Throws Dress Socks At Abhisit

Stunt gets no reaction from anyone

BANGKOK – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva dodged two socks thrown at him by a Thai journalist in a stunt that garnered almost no reaction from anyone at the special FCCT speech last night.

Having pulled off his black dress socks, Daily News journalist Sanit Diptheerawong tossed them from a sitting position while muttering almost inaudibly in Thai:

“This is for the Isaan farmers you look down on. And this is for all the Thais who love democracy.”

One sock slightly deflected off the shoulder of moderator Jonathan Head, while the other failed to reach the front of the room, instead falling into the lap of 47-year-old NGO worker Mary Fagan.

Sanit then stayed on to listen to the rest of Abhisit’s talk, clapping warmly when it concluded.
