Abhisit Loses Cufflinks On Relief Boat

PM says relief efforts should continue despite personal setback

PATHUM THANI – The government suffered yet another setback today when Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva misplaced a prized pair of cufflinks while on a boat surveying the worst-hit flood areas.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejijiva searches in vain for his missing cuff links amid a flooded street in Pathum Thani.

The cufflinks, a hand-engraved platinum set bearing the crest of Abhisit’s Eton boarding school, were believed to have slipped out of their holes on the PM’s french-cuffed Ermengildo Zegna shirt while he was handing out Red Cross relief bags to stranded residents on the rooftops of their homes.

Although the cufflinks are rumored to have both great monetary and sentimental value, the PM dismissed their loss as part of the job.

“These people have lost everything,” he said via his Twitter account. “Whereas I have quite a few other sets of cufflinks.”

Abhisit has been praised for declining the Royal Navy’s offers to send in divers to recover the lost cufflinks. However, the decision to wear cufflinks and a long-sleeved dress shirt during relief operations has garnered some criticism that the PM is out of touch with common people.

The PM’s office is believed to be looking into the possibility of a short-sleeved polo-style shirt for his next scheduled boat trip to the devastated areas of Lop Buri.

Meanwhile, three young boys drowned looking for the cufflinks, which are worth more than their combined family assets lost in the flood.
