Wat Khun Samut Chin, located in Samut Prakan and built during the era of King Rama V (1868 – 1910), once had 76 rai of land surrounding its temple, but soil erosion and rising sea levels have shrunk its temple grounds to five rai of usable land, while Dr Sonthi Kotchawat, who studies climate change, says that Bangkok could be entirely submerged by flooding by 2050 because of the effects of global warming and coastal erosion.
