To be said with notes of fear, anxiety

BANGKOK – The Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Culture made a joint announcement today that, effective immediately, the long-used phrase “Long Live The King” would be permanently amended to include the word “Please.”

Beginning today, all official government communications and publications would switch to the new modified phrase “Long Live The King, Please,” which the Ministries believe more accurately reflect the sentiments of the Thai public when regarding their beloved monarch.

Additionally, private sector use of the modified phrase is highly encouraged, including advertised media and printed birthday wishes for His Majesty this year.

The mandatory use of center-justified text and ornate, golden font with swirly serifs will remain unchanged.
