BANGKOK – After spending two nights in jail and confronted with video and eyewitness evidence connecting him to attempted bribery of the Supreme Court, lawyer Pichit Chuenban has admitted that he was the one who delivered the money-filled bag but insists that he was just returning the correct change for a pastry purchase made by a Supreme Court judge.
“He wanted some red-bean buns and I agreed to get them,” Pichit explained to journalists during a court-supervised visit with the press. “He gave me 2,000,060 baht for it, and asked me to return the change. And that’s exactly what I did.”
Pichit was, however, unable to identify the judge’s name, saying he “forgot.” When asked why there were no buns in the bag, he said he may have become hungry on the way back to the courthouse and eaten them.
