The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has identified 118 hot springs throughout the country and unveiled a three-part plan to develop the naturally-occurring phenomena into tourist destinations in an effort to compete with Japanese-style ‘Onsen towns’ and European ‘spa towns’, with locations all over the country, including urban, rural, and natural hot springs.
